Discover the inspiration behind Disney’s acclaimed stage musical THE LION KING in this unique and exciting series of events at the Trinity Theatre.
Julie Taymor, one of the world’s most innovative directors, has achieved worldwide acclaim for her production of THE LION KING, which combines performers, masks, puppetry and large theatrical imagery. She was entrusted by Disney Theatrical Productions to transform the beloved 1994 animated feature film into a stage musical drawing upon her vast and varied experience of myriad theatrical styles and cultures, most prominently African tribal design and Balinese puppetry and movement.
Set against the majesty of the Serengeti Plains to the evocative rhythms of Africa, Disney’s now legendary production of THE LION KING explodes with glorious colours, stunning effects and enchanting music to tell the timeless story of Simba and his epic journey to fulfil his destiny as King of the Pridelands.
Featuring some of the complete costumes, full-scale puppets and masks along with costume sketches and behind-the-scenes photographs, this fascinating exhibition will bring to life the journey of how the legendary production made the transition from screen to the Broadway stage.
